Exploring the Mesmerizing Terraced Fields of Lào Cai During the Water Pouring Season

The Terraced Field at Dawn

During the water-pouring season, Lao Cai's terraced fields transform into a stunning natural canvas. The flooded layers reflect a beautiful array of colors: the golden glow of sunlight, the brownish-yellow of muddy earth, the green of young rice shoots, and the blue-purple algae.

This visual feast, unique to the northern highland region, begins mid-May and offers a spectacle that captivates the senses.

At dawn, the Sang Ma Sao Village fields come alive as the first light of day casts a serene glow across the reflective waters. Further exploration reveals the vibrant green fields of Ngai Thau Ha Village, where farmers diligently plant rice, signalling the start of a new agricultural cycle.

The journey through this mountainous terrain unveils a landscape dominated by terraced fields, each location offering a different perspective on the beauty of the water-pouring season. As the rainwater from mountain streams is skilfully channelled into the fields, the land is prepared for the upcoming crop, showcasing the harmonious relationship between the local farmers and nature.

Whether bathed in the sun's warm light or under the gentle touch of rain, the terraced fields of Lao Cai during the water-pouring season provide an unforgettable experience, highlighting the timeless connection between the land and its people.
