If you make a one-day tour in Ho Chi Minh City, I would suggest you should visit the following tourist sites:
Notre Dame Cathedral:
Notre Dame Cathedral is located in the downtown of Ho Chi Minh City. It was built between 1863 and 1860. All building materials were imported from France. The outside walls was constructed with red bricks. They have still retained bright red colour over hundred years.

Post Office: Next to the Notre Dame Cathedral is located the Saigon Central Post Office (across the street).
It was constructed between 1886 and 1891 with French architect style. You could do shopping here with collection of stamps, coins, as well as souvernirs to give to friends as gifts.
Open hours: 8:00 AM - 5:30 PM.
Ben Thanh Market: If you want to buy some more souvenirs, Ben Thanh Market is a must. There is a variety of goods: tobacco, sweets, wristwatches, alcohol, dried foods, jewelry, hardware. Normally, prices are higher than elsewhere, it should be bargaining, however, some vendors have fixed prices.
Gastronomic Street Ben Thanh (along one side of Ben Thanh Market): Open around 7 PM till midnight. There is a variety of delicious plates. Prices are fixed, however, food safety is not assured.
For lunch: Ngon restaurant is a favourate destination for most of tourists as you could discover specialties of the South, Middle and North of Vietnam. Prices are reasonable. There are two Ngon restaurants: a new one is located in Nam Ky Khoi Nghia Street, and the former one Pasteur Street, The former is preferred.

War Remnants Museum:
War Remnants Museum is consistently popular with international tourists. They will be told about the brutality of war, its civilian victims and hear victims of US military action tell their moving, brave stories.

Vinh Nghiem Pagoda:
It was built over a span of seven years from 1964 to 1971. It is not only a tourist attraction but also a center for dedicated Buddhist belief and practice

In the evening, you could take a walk the downtown of district 1 with many souvenirs in Dong Khoi Street (prices are expensive, it's better to take a look). Dinner, you have multiple choices such as Wrap and Roll Restaurant, Hoang Yen Restaurant (both are Vietnamese food).
