Traditional boat race in Vietnam

Traditional boat race Ghe Ngo is well-known in the southern Vietnam and has attracted attention of local people as well as local and international tourists. It is annual events with support of local government to promote culture and tourism in the southern provinces.




Ghe ngo boat is made in wood which is grown in a court yard of pagoda. Craft men attach boat design to religious belief.
When Ghe ngo boat is launched, people make offerings to God for blessing. 




After launching a boat, it is training days. Young, strong, and skillful men are selected. It is really an honour to be part of a racing team. These men gather every afternoon after hard work in fields to participate in training under instruction of an experienced coach.





Boat are examined carefully before a competion. It is an important event as people in southern provinces are earnest to see this activity.
